We were very excited when one of our Japanese friends told us about this Taiwanese restaurant in Towada! The food is pretty good and really cheap! You get a lot for what you pay for. You can order a set (like you see above) or a la carte.

Hours: 1100-1500; 1700-2400

Directions: From POL gate:  Go straight all the way into Towada (Route 10). Take a right at Towada Technical High School (Route 165). The restaurant will be on your left, before you hit the light at the intersection for Route 4. There is parking on either side of the restaurant.

Twin Dragon

Greetings gentle readers!

I am back with a review of what I feel is the best Chinese restaurant I have tried in Misawa!

Twin Dragon has an extensive menu of traditional Chinese cuisine. This cafĂ© –like restaurant  has a calm atmosphere and a nice lunch menu (shown below) which comes with dessert  (they gave us  plum ice cream with tea).

Set D was a favorite dish of mine: ma po tofu. It was slightly salty but still very good.

The stir-fried shrimp and vegetables is a fresh and light flavored lunch but still leaves you satisfied.

Overall, I was quite pleased with Twin Dragon and hope to return to try their dinner menu.

It is located on White Pole Road on the left hand side before you get to Nakai. It is also shares the building with a sushi restaurant.

Hours: lunch: 1100-1430 (last call 1400)

    dinner: 1700-2030 (last call 2000)

    phone: 0176-53-1225

Edit: It is with regret that I must say Twin Dragon is no longer in business Sad smile

Jasmine

Jasmine restaurant is located on base in the JSDF area building 145.  When you walk into the building, the cleaners are to your right and to your left is a shop for military clothing. If you keep going straight (toward your left) there is Jasmine restaurant.

They have several dishes here (all Chinese cuisine.) There are pictures of all the dishes on the wall with numbers. You order from the machine (yen only) and take your ticket to the counter. They give you a number and you sit down and wait for it to be called (usually in Japanese).

The prices are very reasonable and it is a great place to get lunch (especially if you don’t feel like going off base or just tired of food from the food court). The restaurant is open from 11-4 and 4:30-7pm.

The atmosphere is like a small cafeteria with restaurant seating. 175873_1860136465848_1314019772_2139007_8185743_o176013_1860134785806_1314019772_2138992_5279214_o

I had the ginger pork, it was really delicious!

Karinba Chinese Restaurant

156221_1727327425705_1314019772_1868420_4085666_n
Karinba Chinese Restaurant is very popular among the Americans living in Misawa. This is probably the reason why I avoided going here for so long, but today I decided to try it.  First of all,  it is expensive and the food is not tasty. I would call it American style Chinese but even at that it doesn’t taste good. The best part of our lunch was the pickled dish! (And the ice cream, but that is pretty hard to mess up). I’m not saying that nobody should go here, (Asian tastebuds beware!) but it really isn’t my taste and needless to say, I won’t be going back. I hate to leave this blog on a bad note, so I will tell you one good thing about Karinba, the atmosphere is really nice.
If you would still like to try Karinba you can get there by going out the POL gate, past 4 stoplights and it will be on your left.
