Acciuga

DSC_0778

Acciuga is a small Italian restaurant located right outside the main gate. It is very warm and cozy and the décor is rustic Italian. (They even have wine bottles arranged in corks on top of the toilet in the restroom!)

The menu includes antipasto, first and second courses, a cheese platter, salad, bread, dessert, wine, beer, cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages and coffee.

I chose their daily pasta which was a slightly spicy penne with basil in tomato sauce.

This dish was under the second course. We were a little disappointed it didn’t come with any rice but I suppose that is why it is a second course.

The food here was really good and I can’t wait to try their lunch menu!

Directions: From the main gate, take a left. Acciuga is on the right next to the Nikon store. I would park in visitor’s parking and walk.

Aoyama Pesci ::closed::

Chef preparing salads
Aoyama Pesci is my favorite Italian restaurant in Misawa, and it is very close to base! During lunch hours you can get a pasta plate, salad, bread, soup and dessert set and it is very reasonably priced and extremely tasty!

The atmosphere inside is very cozy and welcoming. Did I mention the food is great? The portions are nice too. It may seem like you aren’t getting a lot, but the plates they use have a kind of “bowl” in the middle of them, so it is deeper than it seems.

Pizzaria Massimo

I went to Pizzaria Massimo two weeks ago and it was awesome. Best pizza in Misawa by far! It has just opened up recently in American Park on White Pole road. Once you go in the large building, go through the “supermarket” section and it is on your right. There is a wood fired oven inside. They serve “Naples Pizza.” The atmosphere is very cozy with photos of Italy and some very Italian looking musician, I didn’t have a chance to ask who he was. You can order a pizza set (which comes with a salad) but one pizza was enough for me! With many toppings there is sure to be one for you! Here is the margherita pizza I had. It was superb! Next time you are having a craving for pizza, head over to Pizzaria Massimo!

Edit:
Here are some more pictures from Pizzaria Massimo. Also, I asked who the musician was in so many of the photos. His name is Luciano Ligubue. I checked him out on YouTube. He is like an Italian Bruce Springsteen.

Mumin Cafe

outside Mumin Cafe
Mumin Cafe is located on White Pole Road right outside the Main Gate past American Park. Just remember, White Pole road is a one way street (toward base) from 6am-10pm every day.  I have walked by this cafe before always wanting to try it, but since I don’t go down White Pole Road that often, I didn’t  remember about it until today at the Halloween Festival. tables and chairs near the windowquaint nautical/musical display.
It is a decent sized cafe plenty of tables and chairs. They serve pasta dishes (including lasagna), pizza, and curry dishes. I had the spaghetti carbonara and it was delicious!  I recommend checking it out if you have a chance! spaghetti carbonara

Angelo's

Italian flag noren ftw!

Duck salad. Simple and delicious
Angelo's is an Italian restaurant that is easy to get to. I was so excited to find that they had pasta with squid ink! I hadn't had it in so very, very long. It is quite a messy meal, so be warned. Also, keep in mind that Angelo's is closed on Wednesdays. Open 11:30am-2:30pm and again 5pm-9pm.

Directions to Angelo's: From POL gate, go straight through 5 traffic lights. Angelo's will be on your right after Lawson's. If you pass Super Drug Asahi you have gone too far.
