Café Fuku

We often pass Café Fuku on our way to Towada and have always wanted to drop in, so we did ! The seating style is mostly Japanese but I love that the seats on the floor have backs to them. I find that very American friendly.

This café’s specialty is soba noodles (cold or hot). At certain times during the day, I believe you can go to the building next door and either watch or help soba noodles being made!

A free service here is inari filled with not only rice but soba noodles as well. Everything here is delicious!

The menu is in Japanese so I advise bringing someone who can read Japanese, or if you know common soba dishes’ names you can probably ask for it and they most likely will have it.

Directions: From POL gate, go straight all the way into Towada (Route 10). Café Fuku is on a hill on your right. You will see a sign peeking out from a hill. I will have to get back to you on the approximate distance.

Home Café

DSC_2085_DxO

Last Friday I tried Home Café for the first time.  We were with a lot of our friends and no one was hungry so we stopped by.

The drinks at Home Café aren’t cheap (about ¥300-¥400) but it IS basically a bar and a nice and cozy place to chat with friends. They do have a few snack items on the menu like french fries.

If you feel the need to wet your whistle, check out Home Café located on White pole road. Home Café is on the second floor, the main entrance has a staircase leading to the café. Hours are 1700-2400 during the week and 1700-0300 during the weekends.

Café Omiya (Pizza and Curry Grill)

Café Omiya (also known as ‘Pizza Curry’) is a little hole in the wall restaurant located at the end of white pole road.  The food here is great and filling! I had the pork cutlet curry and pizza toast.

219748_2002624267954_1314019772_2341501_2295003_o

Café Omiya’s menu consists (naturally) of pizza and curry. You can also get donburi, salads and sandwiches. You can choose how hot you would like your curry and they also have a few sets that include curry with pizza toast, beer or a soft drink.

You can see Café Omiya across from Max Value Supermarket at the end of White Pole road. The restaurant is on the second floor above Le Monde. Also, a fair warning to those of you who are afraid of heights or have leg problems… you must climb some steep steps to get to the end of this pizza curry rainbow!

Cake House Shiroi Mori

167960_1790614127833_1314019772_2010797_1969984_n

Cake House Shiroi Mori (literally, white forest) is a cute café in Misawa that resembles a log cabin. There are seats in a closed off patio area for warmer months where you can enjoy some soft serve ice cream. When you walk in, you need to order your coffee, dessert, and/or food first before sitting down in either their café area (which has nice plump green sofas) or in the patio. I do not have their full menu of food, I have had their pizza before (Japanese style pizza… a little on the sweeter side). I think they offer sandwiches during the day as well.

168693_1790611567769_1314019772_2010782_6668437_n The first thing you will notice as soon as you walk in is the dessert case. cake slices are between 250 to over 300 yen. If you decide to order hot tea, please know that you will get an entire pot for about 460 yen, so you might as well split it!

If you would like to try Cake House Shiroi Mori you can get there by taking the POL gate go straight through the Nogawa intersection, past Netz Toyota. After Netz Toyota you will come to a stoplight, go straight. The road will split stay to the right. The Cake House will be 1 km down the hill. (Thanks Misawa Life!)

Café シ ェモア

Café シ ェモア (Also called Chez Moi which means ‘My Home’ in English) is a sweet little spot in a heavily residential area . I don’t have a good picture of the outside of the café because it was very dark outside when we visited. chezmoimisawa1
Chez Moi has a small and cozy atmosphere and is very welcoming. They offer lunch plates, ice cream parfaits, coffee and tea. You can also reserve a party room.
chezmoimisawa2When you first walk in there is a wood stove with teapots on top of it. It makes the café seem really homey. chezmoioven The café is also children friendly, there is a corner sectioned off  with toys for children to play. (Please make sure they take off their shoes before going in).
chezmoibaby
We went for coffee and ice cream. The coffee is maple coffee and the ice cream pictured is matcha with a little bit of adzuki bean paste. I thought it was wonderful! they also had cornflakes at the bottom of the bowl. maplecoffeechezmoiaisucreamuchezmoi
Café  シ ェモア is located in Oirase Town toward Michinoku Toll Road exit from the POL gate. You will see the small signs right after the Jam Friend Club pachinko or right before the “Dynam” pachinko near Circle K. It is built in a quiet residential area, section H, behind a small wooded area.
If you would like to see more pictures of the café and items from their menu visit :

Café Live Forever

DSC06007
I had some coupons to go to Café Live forever since Halloween and I finally had a chance to go yesterday. (They are closed on Sundays and Wednesdays, and I always want to go on a Sunday!)
The atmosphere is very cozy, almost like a cabin. They have a rack of magazines to look at while you are enjoying your coffee. Café Live forever offers a lunch menu from 11:00am -2:30pm which has many rice and pasta sets. You can also get a scone set with lunch that includes 2 scones and a pot of tea. Or you can get a cake set which is a piece of cake plus a drink.

The lunch menu is decent. I didn’t think it was anything noteworthy. Just your typical Japanese café lunch with meat, rice, salad and soup.
DSC06014DSC06015
But what WAS noteworthy and what I had keep hearing about is their scones! They were delicious! They offer plain, raisin, caramel, tea, cheese, blueberry and chocolate flavored scones. They are a lot smaller than scones back in the states but my goodness are they good!

I will definitely be going back for scones, tea and a nice chat. ^_^

At the bottom of the menu, it explains why they named the café Café Live Forever. (I always think of the song “Who wants to live forever?” by Queen).
Where does the name of our café originate? Have you ever seen the flower ‘Live Forever’? Perhaps not, because this plant grows on a very high mountains under the severest climate. It takes root on steep hills or on very tiny spots of soft soil on the rock where chilly winds blow restlessly. It bears the heat of the day as well as the chill of the night (the temperature may go up and by 50F within a day). No wonder this flower bears its unique name ‘Live Forever’ because of its durability. Despite the harsh environment, its beauty endures and it reappears every summer as a heart-warming flower. its beauty never perishes, never, ever. ‘live Forever’ might be You. When you try your best in life.

Hours: 10am-5:30pm (last order 4:30pm) closed on Sunday and Wednesday. Lunch hours are 11am-2:30pm.
Directions to Café Live Forever:
Go out the main gate and take a right at City Hall. Go straight and after the fourth stoplight go straight toward Lee Garden Take a left after Lee Garden (third left on the street) and Café Live Forever is toward the end of the road on your right.

EDIT:  Café Live Forever no longer serves lunch. Scones are take-out or Black Cat only.

Mumin Cafe

outside Mumin Cafe
Mumin Cafe is located on White Pole Road right outside the Main Gate past American Park. Just remember, White Pole road is a one way street (toward base) from 6am-10pm every day.  I have walked by this cafe before always wanting to try it, but since I don’t go down White Pole Road that often, I didn’t  remember about it until today at the Halloween Festival. tables and chairs near the windowquaint nautical/musical display.
It is a decent sized cafe plenty of tables and chairs. They serve pasta dishes (including lasagna), pizza, and curry dishes. I had the spaghetti carbonara and it was delicious!  I recommend checking it out if you have a chance! spaghetti carbonara

Un Cafe & Couverture

outside the Cafe

I pass Un Cafe & Couverture every day when I go to work. One weekend I decided to try it and it is pretty good! I have been trying to find a cafe around here. Un Cafe & Couverture has a very rustic feel to it. They even have a heart shaped window! There is also a shop inside the cafe. They sell purses, jewelry and clothing. I went for lunch and had lamb curry with rice and tea. It was delightful :)
